Yoga is a practice, you do not “do”, you practice. So can you practice yoga? If you have not started or are entertaining the idea, I was there too. Everyone currently practicing was where you are now, with probably similar thoughts. Whether it be, I am not flexible, I am too hyper, I can’t do that, everyone else is so advanced, I don’t know where to begin, I don’t want to look stupid. So first things first, let’s dump the limiting beliefs here people! You are your biggest obstacle and the hardest step is to begin.
The first time I practiced yoga, I went with some friends to a group donation class with hundreds of other yogis, at a beautiful landmark, overlooking the ocean. I had no idea what I was doing and I had no idea what I was in for. An hour later, I was on a yoga high and I felt AH-mazing! Since that day, I never looked back. I wanted more. I began looking for more pop donation classes for a good cause, you can’t judge me if I am there for a good cause right?!
Months later a Bikram style studio was doing a special for the month for new students. If you are looking to try out a studio, I recommend looking into new student specials and talking to the instructors. So, I went from practicing a few times to having a month of Bikram classes. Bikram yoga is a hot yoga style if you are like, wtf are you saying?? The owner of the studio was awesome and inspirational. I wanted more. I wanted to know more, practice more, and that’s exactly what I did. I looked up every new special at all the studios I was interested in. I looked up every event and added it to my calendar. I even set up a room in my house just for my own home practice.
So, if you have been admiring from a far the yogi practice, dive right in, add some local studios on social media or check out their sites. See when they are running new student specials or if they have any pop events going on that you want to check out. Yoga is a practice and everyone’s practice is different. Tell your limiting beliefs to get lost and let’s do this!
